Can You Reuse a Wedding Welcome Sign After the Wedding?

Vows to Vittles

Yes, but the best time to plan its second use is before the sign is made. The material you choose now determines whether your wedding welcome sign can be refinished, resized, re-engraved, or rebuilt after the reception. A lightweight printed sign may offer few options beyond framing or storage. A thoughtfully constructed hardwood sign can become something you use in your home for years.

With Vows to Vittles, Coonhound Woodworks creates a two-panel maple welcome sign for your wedding. After the celebration, you return the panels to our workshop. We remove the original engraving and rebuild the wood as a cutting-board set, personalized wall sign, or custom home décor.

Before You Order a Wedding Sign, Decide What Happens Next

Most couples choose their welcome sign by considering the wording, colors, size, and wedding theme. What happens after the reception is often left unanswered.

That can leave you with a large personalized sign and nowhere suitable to put it. Thinking about the second use early changes the buying decision. Instead of asking only, “How will this look at the wedding?” ask:

  • Where could we use this wood at home?
  • Would we prefer cutting boards or decorative pieces?
  • Do we want to preserve any of the original wording?
  • Could flowers from the wedding become part of the new design?
  • Is the sign being built from material that can be worked again?

You do not need to decide every detail immediately. Choosing the general direction helps the maker plan the original sign around what comes next.

Why the Sign Material Matters After the Reception

Wedding welcome signs are made from many materials, but they do not offer the same reuse possibilities.

Sign materialLikely options after the wedding
Solid hardwoodRefinish, resize, re-engrave, or rebuild it as wall décor or suitable household pieces
Plywood or MDFPaint over it, add new lettering, frame it, or use it as decorative art
AcrylicRemove replaceable lettering, add a new design, or reuse it for another event
Foam boardFrame it, save part in a memory box, photograph it, or recycle it where accepted
FabricTurn it into a wall hanging, decorative banner, or memory-box lining
ChalkboardUse it as a menu board, household message board, or sign for future celebrations

If you want the sign to become more than a framed keepsake, solid hardwood provides more room for professional transformation.

Coonhound Woodworks builds every Vows to Vittles display from face-grain hard maple laminated from solid 3-inch-wide strips. The material and dimensions are selected with both the wedding display and the second build in mind.

Explore What Your Wedding Sign Could Become

Could Your Welcome Sign Become Four Kitchen Boards?

The original Vows to Vittles display consists of two vertical panels. Each panel measures 72 inches tall × 12 inches wide × 3/4 inch thick.

After the wedding, the panels return to our Cumming workshop. We remove the original engraving, refinish the maple, and use a material-efficient cutting plan to create four working boards:

Brisket Board: 24 × 12 Inches

A large board for briskets, roasts, holiday turkeys, and other substantial cuts. It includes an approximately 1/4-inch perimeter groove to help contain juices.

Large Cutting Board: 20 × 12 Inches

Suitable for everyday meal preparation, slicing meat, and cutting bread. It also includes a perimeter juice groove.

Medium Board: 15 × 9 Inches

A practical size for vegetables, sandwiches, and routine countertop tasks.

Small Bar Board: 12 × 8 Inches

Made for citrus, garnishes, cheese, and smaller preparation jobs.

Each board is sanded smooth and conditioned with food-grade mineral oil and board wax. This option does more than preserve the sign as a memory. It places the same maple in your kitchen, where it can become part of meals and gatherings throughout married life.

Prefer Décor? Give the Maple a New Design

Beyond cutting boards, we transform the original maple into refined, custom-made décor designed to belong in a particular place in your home.

Create a Personalized Wall Sign

We replace the original welcome message with a design that fits your home. The new engraving could include:

  • Your family name
  • Your wedding date
  • A line from your vows
  • A place that matters to both of you
  • Custom lettering or original artwork

You can select the finished dimensions, design, and layout with the workshop.

Make One Statement Piece

The panels can be reshaped into one larger decorative piece. This may work well for an entryway, dining room, living room, or another space where you want the design to stand out.

Build a Coordinated Group

The maple can also become several smaller pieces planned for different rooms or arranged together as one display. The size, form, finish, and engraving can be based on where you intend to place them.

Not sure which option fits your home? Start by telling us where you want to use the finished piece. Rick can plan the second design around the space and the maple available.

What If You Want to Preserve the Wedding Flowers Too?

The wood does not have to carry the wedding memory by itself. Selected flowers from the bridal bouquet, groom’s boutonnière, or ceremony arrangements can be preserved in clear epoxy and incorporated into the finished design. You only need to send a few selected blooms or petals rather than the complete arrangement.

Before work begins, we confirm:

  • Which flowers will be included
  • How many blooms or petals are needed
  • Where they will appear
  • How the epoxy will work with the engraving
  • The dimensions and layout of the finished piece

This brings two parts of the wedding into one keepsake: the maple displayed at the venue and the flowers carried or seen during the ceremony.

One Set of Panels, Two Different Designs

Vows to Vittles is completed in two stages.

1. Share the Wedding Details

Send your wedding date, names, venue information, preferred wording, and any artwork or scenery you want included.

2. Approve the Welcome Sign

Review how the lettering and artwork will appear across the two six-foot maple panels.

3. Display the Sign

Use the finished sign at the ceremony entrance, reception, photo area, or another suitable part of the venue.

4. Return the Panels

Follow the packaging and shipping instructions included with your order or arrange a local return to our Cumming workshop.

5. Approve the Second Design

Confirm what the panels will become, along with the dimensions, engraving, layout, finish, and any floral details.

6. Receive the Remade Pieces

We remove the original engraving, rebuild and finish the maple, and send the completed pieces to your home.

FAQs

What can I do with my wedding welcome sign after the wedding?

You can display it as wall art, replace the original lettering, reuse it for another celebration, or turn suitable hardwood into cutting boards or custom décor.

How do you repurpose a wooden wedding sign?

Depending on the wood and its condition, the sign may be sanded, resized, refinished, and engraved with a new design.

Can a wedding welcome sign be used as home décor?

Yes. At Coonhound Woodworks, we can transform the original maple into a personalized wall sign or refined custom décor designed for a particular place in your home.

Can a wooden wedding sign be turned into a cutting board?

Only when its wood, construction, adhesives, and finish are suitable. Our Vows to Vittles signs are built from hard maple specifically so the panels can return to our workshop and become a four-piece cutting-board set after the wedding.

What is the best material for a reusable wedding sign?

Solid hardwood offers some of the widest reuse possibilities because it can often be resurfaced, resized, and re-engraved. Acrylic and chalkboard signs may also be reused when their original lettering is removable.

How can I preserve my wedding flowers after the ceremony?

Wedding flowers can be pressed, framed, placed in a shadow box, or preserved in resin. Selected blooms or petals may also be incorporated into custom wood décor using clear epoxy.
